Poetry: Advice

To every new parent who’s been on the receiving end of unsolicited advice, which is everyone, let’s be honest.

Week 6 : Low tide, low sun. Very lovely. This week’s Sunday swim was a Monday swim due to being in Newcastle for the weekend. Regretting that weather and a degree of laziness prevented me from getting in to the North Sea whilst I was there. Next time. #thestoics #outdoorswimming
Me, being upstaged by a Christmas tree.
Week 5 - first December swim 🏊‍♀️🥳🥶. Bit drizzly and the water was changing pretty quickly. At one point it seemed to be getting too choppy, so I got out. Then it calmed down a bit, so I got back in again. I swam almost out to the buoy, then got a bit worried about being attacked by seals 😬 and turned back. #thestoics #outdoorswimming #fortyfoot #deeswimber
Week four : No blue skies at the 40foot this morning , but the mist definitely created an atmosphere. A nice calm sea and high tide. There must have been around 50 or more people here this morning. Still harder getting out than getting in. #thestoics #outdoorswimming
Love this picture from a couple of weeks ago. Remember sunshine ?
Over earnest Instagram poetry is my jam.
Here are some books I have read and enjoyed in the last couple of months. ‘My sister is a serial killer’ I really enjoyed. Mixes tones very well and manages to seem like a light read despite the subject matter. ‘All the lives we ever lived’ I picked up from the library because I liked the title 🤷‍♀️. Has some beautiful writing on grief. The Lemn Sissay I loved, but dare I say, I preferred listening to him talk about his life on Desert Island Discs. ‘ Expectation’ is brilliant - the story of friends over the course of maybe twenty years or so. ‘Fever Dream’ is a brilliant novella, really unusual style, challenging in a good way. Finally ‘Millers Valley’ is another story told over decades which is something I really enjoy in a book . Because it’s kind of like life isn’t it ? #amreading #whenimnotoninstagram
Week three: Already it’s getting more difficult to get out of bed for my Sunday morning swim. But thank god for another blue sky and calm water. So this morning was another gorgeous swim - nicely invigorating , although getting dressed afterwards takes longer and longer as fingers struggle to work properly. 3 degrees out of the water , around 9 degrees in. #fortyfoot #thestoics #outdoorswimmingsociety
Now that the evenings are dark, swimming is restricted to the weekends by which time I am dying to get in the water. This week I was able to squeeze in a Friday lunchtime at Seapoint. The excitement driving down to the sea is mixed now with trepidation of the temperature. It’s not so much the water, as the taking all your clothes off before you get in 🥶. Too choppy at the 40ft this morning so switched over to Sandycove instead. Week two. #thestoics #outdoorswimmingsociety #40foot
