Raising Feminists #3
Today Rachel ‘ performed ‘ in two Christmas shows. She took the leading role of ‘ sheep ‘ in the Nativity at school this morning , then this evening was her first ever gymnastics display. This involved lots of running around and at least one forward roll. I cried my way through both of them, and not just because of Rachel. All the kids were adorable and brave. Festive joy 💕🎄
Me, “Act naturally.” Rachel :
Jake got a haircut. Think he likes it.
I got the reading chair I’ve been dreaming of for ages ; you can’t tell from the photo, but I am very happy here. This will be my little corner of cosy for the autumn/winter. Absolutely no small people to be allowed on it for any purpose , particularly not with either food or felt tips in their possession.
I haven’t been here.
The ups and downs of parenting. After the downs of last week ( and last night , oof ) today we went for a walk . Smallest decided it was too far for her , so she and Daddy turned back whilst Jake and I continued. It was really lovely walking in the sun by the sea with my boy , talking about cruise ships , gravity, sea levels rising and , of course, Fortnite. Now, how to bottle that feeling ?
What to do when school holidays are eight weeks long and you only get twenty days annual leave ? What to do when most summer camps run 10-2 and you work 9-5? What to do when it hits home that despite doing better at school, some environments are just too much for your child with ASD? When you realize that for all the talk of Autism Awareness , there is very little in the way of Autism Understanding or Autism Support? What to do when you know that , essentially, you are one of the lucky ones with a relatively flexible job and a supportive family and you are *still* worn out and overwhelmed? What to do ? Keep on keeping on.
#currentlyreading on my lunch break, and it’s every bit as good as its reviews. Follow the advice of Anne Enright on the blurb ‘ Do not read this book in public: it will make you cry.’ At the very least , if you do read in public, have your sunnies on. #booksaremybag
She lets go.
